PARIS ASANAKIS

Paris Asanakis is a distinguished legal professional with over three decades of experience in Commercial, International, and European Law. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Athens University and holds an LLM (with distinction) in European Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium. He is a member of the Piraeus Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the Greek Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) and the Council of State.

Paris began his legal career in 1990 as an associate at the office of the late Professor Anthony Antapasis, a renowned expert in Commercial, Shipping, and Aviation Law at Athens University.

A highly skilled practitioner, Paris specialises in a range of legal fields, including Shipping, Aviation, Competition Law, and Cross-Border Transactions. His extensive experience spans both advisory and litigation roles, particularly in Ship and Aviation Finance. He has successfully represented clients in complex international and domestic arbitrations, as well as in court proceedings. Over the years, Paris has acted for numerous Greek and international banks, as well as leading shipping, aviation, and trading companies.

Beyond his commercial practice, Paris is deeply committed to human rights and the defense of minority rights. Born in Istanbul, he has a longstanding record of advocacy for the Greek Orthodox minority in Türkiye. He has served as legal counsel and President/Board Member of the Imvrian Association (Athens) and as an active member of the Imvros (Gökçeada) community. Paris holds both Greek and Turkish citizenships, further strengthening his connection to the region and its legal landscape.

Since February 2021, Paris has also served as the legal counsel to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, coordinating its legal affairs in Türkiye, Greece, and before the European Court of Human Rights.

Fluent in Greek, English, and French, Paris also has proficiency in Spanish, Italian, and German, as well as basic knowledge of Dutch and Turkish.
